Roan Van de Moosdijk fourth in Spain

Roan van de Moosdijk of the F&H Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team was fourth in the Spanish round of the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship at the Intu-Xanadu complex on the outskirts of Madrid.

The Dutch teenager again showed the competitiveness of the 2021 Kawasaki KX250 with second fastest lap time in Qualifying, but got closed down by his neighbours out of the gate at the start of race one to leave turn one ninth. Advancing two places on the opening lap he gained another position on lap two to run a solid sixth for the first ten minutes before the effects of arm pump forced him to reduce his pace rather than risk a crash; he eventually finished eighth. A nice line through the opening turn in race two saw him quickly break into the top five and two further spectacular moves on the first lap saw him join a three-rider breakaway at the head of the pack. He maintained his challenge for twenty minutes before gradually losing immediate contact to the leaders and, out-of-sight of his chasers, he wisely settled for a lonely third-placed moto finish to earn fourth overall on the day and consolidate his sixth place in the series standings.

Roan van de Moosdijk: “The day started well again with second position in the timed practice session but in the first moto my start was not that good. I couldn’t find my rhythm all moto long due to a lot of arm pump; in the past I didn’t have so much trouble and even if I try to relax it doesn’t seem to help. My second start was not really that good either but in the first few corners I made some smart passes which helped me to get in the top five and after one lap I was third behind Vialle and Geerts. It was a good result with a fourth overall, only three points from the podium; now I need to put two good motos together to get back on the box.”

After a solid eleventh-fastest time, less than a second shy of his teammate, in Qualifying Mathys Boisrame made a scintillating start from the centre of the gate in the opening moto to narrowly miss the holeshot award and immediately took the lead with an impressive move at turn two. His joy was sadly short-lived as he inadvertently selected neutral at turn three and was hit from behind by a couple of rivals. Rejoining the race he fell again a few corners later and landed on his head. The Frenchman decided not to start race two. He remains ninth in the series standings.

Mathys Boisrame: “I’ve had a tough time since my crash at Faenza; I’m still not fully recovered and today was another tough one. I grabbed the holeshot in the first moto but in the third corner I crashed; then I crashed again pretty hard on my head and decided it was wiser to stop my weekend then and there.”
